But only, when the only opponent piece is a rook (a B might easily stop the pawns, when the R is helpless). Also the opponent K must be far enough away. I use a table for this (more or less manually initialized the table by looking at KPPKR TB). I have seen it now and then (not really rare), that this helped my engine to save a draw, or find a win. I programmed it rather defensively (should be really rather sure, that the opponent rook must sac itself, before giving really high bonus for 2 connected passers on 6th rank), and did not see disadvantages yet.
