Pfff, I am really glad to hear that you can get some of the difficulties fixed. To be honest I was afraid that too much of the code was still assembler and that that can't be made compatible with all the protocols that Windows has. Or something like that, and the datastucture of the EOC also makes it more complex. I see that Lex posted in the Lokasoft forum http://www.lokasoft.nl/cgi-bin/UltraBoard1.61/UltraBoard.pl a way to disable the use of the EOC if necessary. About the Bf5 move again, maybe it is still an idea to test if with the new version changing the [Bishop Pair] value now has more effect. I tried it with the old Century 2.0 under ECTool again and in the regular Rebel.eng settings the effect is more visible. At plydepth 11, with [Bishop Pair = 500] but for the rest Rebel.eng settings, the score is 0.05 higher, 0.10 compared to 0.05, and after 13.Bg5 only 13...f6 is played. (I called that TEST2.eng settings). The effect seems enough to choose 0-0 earlier. Now of course in Rebel 12 some parameters have increased values so this may mask a more subtle change like increasing the value for the Bishop pair a bit. Not all of the aggressive parameters are useful when it is still the opening phase, and strategic principles are much harder to program than even King Safety. So if Rebel now plays 11...0-0 with 0.41 score with your settings Ed I think is good! Old Century 2.0: Rebel Engine for ECTool. I thought it might be some energy conservation matter of Windows 98 maybe. Nothing fatal but maybe something to check? In Windows XP I read there is a Task Manager where you can set the task priorities, but Windows 98 does not have such a feature. (And I don't have Win XP) I will check to see if it happens always on my computer, or check again with the patch when it's ready. Thanks again Ed for all your programming (and bughunting)! Lex too!
