In an old American Chess Bulletin, there is a copy of the Kaleidescope chess
problem which is white or black to move and mate in 10 moves.  All pieces are on
the board, except that black's (or white's, can't remember) two bishops are on
black squares (if memory serves).  So my chess computer would not even allow the
problem to be set up.
