this is a historical context that shall show that big and famous companies (you
refer to the big german DEUTSCHE BANK) has sometimes made their money with
horrible historical decisions.
Today many people have forgotten how the deutsche banke and e.g. the Dresdner
Bank have come so big.
It is the same parallel to microsoft : many people know that microsoft is a big
company and that it offers a very often sold operating system.
but how many people remember the history of microsoft and their concurrent
companies ?
The same with others: e.g. in this case chessBase.
Somebody here asked why so many people have animosity against chessBase.
I wanted to explain that a company has not only to be seen for what it does
on the shallow surface of the present, but also to be counted for the things
they have done before ...

>I see it from the side of a user.

i am a user too.
And i bought a product that was sold as STRONG. in fact it is not strong.
i have bought other products that were called strong (hiarcs, nimzo, junior,
rebel) and these products are as strong as promissed.

if you for the first time bought a product from chessbase, you maybe don't know
about their history. You see, we have a different point of view because we have
a different base of knowledge and experience.

I don't think 20,- DM are worth debating much about them.
On the other hand you cannot value the millennium update by now, because it is
not on the market so far.
so how do you know fritz is better ?
You bought an old program. the new millennium product is a new stuff.
you paid only 100 because it is clear that fritz5 runs out, a running out
product is always cheaper.
If pentium 100 is state of the art 19xy and you buy it 19xy+4 than you will
maybe
pay only 100 * n. of course 100 * n is cheaper than 120 *n.
but - you buy something that is old in the moment you buy it. it has run out.

if you say so. enjoy it. if you would have asked me, i would have sold you my
fritz for 50,- DM. this is also cheap. :-)))
