Eventually my guess was something along 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 b6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3 Bxc3 5.bxc3 Ne7 6.Bc4 d5 7.exd5 Nxd5 8.d3 Bb7 * I finally got "debutant" Ruffian 1.0.5 to work in Chesspartner's Winboard interface, at least in analysis mode now it goes beyond level 1, I'm not sure yet if I can get all the CP timelevels to work too or what commands I have to put in ENGINEEXT.INI for that. Don't know much about this Winboard stuff yet, but you sure have much choice of different programs to try and compare, and new ones almost every day it seems! For analysis or to play against there is Crafty, Comet, El Chinito, Ruffian, Tao, Ant, Queen, Yace Kaissa, to name just a few I know by name but there are many more. links for instance on http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/ by Leo Dijksman. Impressive site by the way! Ruffian also finds Bg5 attractive, just like Deep Fritz. Can't be all bad then but a human player would not soon go for it. I think it has something to do with Vincent's famous tactical barrier or something :) No idea really but some programs just think the Queen is placed worse ,-from Black's perspective-, on d6 than on d8 I suppose. I like the long lines Ruffian gives and the branching factor seems to be good too, considering this was only on a 500 MHZ Celeron with 32 Mb for hashtables.
