Shredder simply can't find it because it evaluates a Rook much higher than bishop+pawn. All those babbling about 'human like decision' and 'advanced chess thinking' is nonsense. In some positions Bishop+Pawn are as strong as Rook. In some positions a Rook is much stronger than Bishop+Pawn. Shredder might find the correct move quickly there whereas Fritz might sacrifce the exchange for nothing. Just compare analysis from this position: [D] 8/p7/2p1k3/3b4/4p3/8/PP6/1KR5 w - - 0 1 Analysis by Fritz 8: 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kd2 Kd4 3.b3 c5 4.Ke2 ² (0.53) Depth: 7/14 00:00:00 17kN 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Rd1+ Ke3 4.Re1+ Kd4 5.Re2 e3 ² (0.47) Depth: 8/16 00:00:00 37kN 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Rd1+ Ke3 4.Re1+ Kd4 5.Kd2 c5 6.Re3 ² (0.62) Depth: 9/17 00:00:00 76kN 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Rd1+ Ke3 4.Re1+ Kd4 5.Kd2 c5 6.Re3 a6 ² (0.59) Depth: 10/20 00:00:00 140kN 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kc3 c5 3.Re1 a6 4.b3 Be6 5.Re3 Kf4 6.Re2 ² (0.59) Depth: 11/20 00:00:00 328kN, tb=4 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kc3 c5 3.Re1 Kf4 4.b3 e3 5.Kd3 ² (0.62) Depth: 12/22 00:00:01 874kN, tb=12 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Kd2 a5 4.Ke2 a4 5.Rd1+ Kc3 6.bxa4 Kb4 7.Ke3 Kxa4 8.Rc1 Ka3 ± (0.72) Depth: 13/24 00:00:02 1754kN, tb=41 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Kd2 a5 4.Ke2 a4 5.Rd1+ Kc3 6.bxa4 Kb4 7.Ke3 Kxa4 8.Rc1 Ka3 ± (0.72) Depth: 14/24 00:00:04 2847kN, tb=92 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.b3 Kd4 3.Kd2 a5 4.Ke2 a4 5.Rd1+ Kc3 6.bxa4 Kb4 7.Ke3 Kxa4 8.Rc1 Ka3 ± (0.72) Depth: 15/26 00:00:08 5770kN, tb=275 1.Rc5! ± (0.75) Depth: 15/26 00:00:14 9318kN, tb=408 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Kd6 3.Ra5 Bc4 4.b4 e3 5.Rc5 Bb5 6.Kd1 a5 7.a3 ± (0.78) Depth: 15/26 00:00:17 11306kN, tb=503 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Ke5 3.Ra5 Kf4 4.Rxa6 Ke3 5.Ra7 ± (0.78) Depth: 16/39 00:00:26 16693kN, tb=1161 1.Rc5! ± (1.06) Depth: 17/29 00:00:48 31081kN, tb=2779 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Ke5 3.Ra5 Kf4 4.Rxa6 Ke3 5.Ra7 ± (1.06) Depth: 18/32 00:01:19 49828kN, tb=7364 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Ke5 3.Ra5 Kf4 4.Rxa6 Ke3 5.Ra3+ Ke2 6.Rh3 e3 7.Rh2+ Kf3 8.b3 c5 9.Kd1 Be4 ± (1.12) Depth: 19/37 00:02:52 109680kN, tb=21866 Analysis by Shredder 7.04: 1.Rc3 ± (0.84) Depth: 1/1 00:00:00 1.Rc3 Ke5 ± (0.85) Depth: 2/6 00:00:00 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.b4 ² (0.67) Depth: 3/6 00:00:00 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.Ra3 Kd4 3.Rxa7 ± (0.84) Depth: 4/8 00:00:00 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.Ra3 Kd4 3.Rxa7 ± (0.84) Depth: 5/8 00:00:00 1.a3 e3 2.Re1 Be4+ 3.Kc1 a6 ± (0.85) Depth: 5/9 00:00:00 1.a3 Ke5 2.Kc2 Kd4 3.Rd1+ Kc4 ± (0.87) Depth: 5/9 00:00:00 1.a3 Ke5 2.Kc2 c5 3.Kd2 Kd4 ± (0.91) Depth: 6/10 00:00:00 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kd2 Bc4 ± (0.92) Depth: 6/10 00:00:00 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kd2 Kd4 3.Rc3 c5 ± (0.93) Depth: 6/10 00:00:00 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.a3 Kd4 3.b4 e3 4.Rd1+ Kc4 ± (0.88) Depth: 7/11 00:00:00 14kN 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.Ra3 Bc4 3.Kc2 a6 4.Kd2 ± (0.89) Depth: 7/12 00:00:00 20kN 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.Ra3 Bc4 3.Kc2 a6 4.Kd2 ± (0.89) Depth: 7/12 00:00:00 21kN 1.Rc3 Ke5 2.Kc2 Bxa2 3.Kd2 Kd4 4.Ra3 Be6 5.Rxa7 ± (0.82) Depth: 8/12 00:00:00 38kN, tb=1 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.a3 Kd4 3.Rd1+ Ke3 4.Re1+ Kf4 ± (0.83) Depth: 8/12 00:00:00 45kN, tb=12 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.a3 a5 3.Kd2 Kd4 4.Rc3 e3+ ± (1.03) Depth: 8/16 00:00:00 52kN, tb=37 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.a3 c5 3.Kd2 Kd4 4.Rc3 c4 5.Rg3 ± (1.01) Depth: 9/16 00:00:00 83kN, tb=158 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kc3 Be6 3.a3 c5 4.b3 e3 5.Kd3 e2 ± (1.14) Depth: 10/15 00:00:01 166kN, tb=308 1.Kc2 Ke5 2.Kc3 c5 3.b3 a5 ± (1.10) Depth: 11/17 00:00:01 237kN, tb=536 1.Rc3 Kd6 2.Kc2 a6 3.a3 a5 ± (1.11) Depth: 11/17 00:00:02 351kN, tb=928 1.Rc3 a6 2.b4 Ke5 3.Kc1 Kd4 4.Kd2 ± (1.13) Depth: 11/17 00:00:03 452kN, tb=1198 1.Rc3 a6 2.a3 Ke5 3.Kc1 Kd4 4.Kd2 c5 5.Rg3 c4 6.Rh3 a5 ± (1.09) Depth: 12/20 00:00:04 610kN, tb=1420 1.Rc5 Kd6 2.Ra5 Bc4 3.Rxa7 Bd3+ 4.Kc1 Ke5 ± (1.10) Depth: 12/23 00:00:06 902kN, tb=2564 1.Rc5 Ke5 2.Kc2 Kf4 3.Ra5 Kf3 4.Kd2 Kf2 5.Ra3 c5 6.Re3 ± (1.21) Depth: 12/23 00:00:06 1072kN, tb=2760 1.Rc5 Ke5 2.Kc2 Kf4 3.Ra5 Kf3 4.Rxa7 Kf2 5.Re7 c5 +- (1.46) Depth: 13/21 00:00:10 1448kN, tb=4774 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Kd6 3.Ra5 Bc4 4.b4 e3 5.Ra3 e2 6.Re3 e1Q 7.a3 Qxe3 +- (1.46) Depth: 13/21 00:00:12 1699kN, tb=5727 1.Rc5 Ke5 2.Kc2 Kf4 3.Kd2 Bxa2 4.Rxc6 e3+ 5.Ke1 Ke4 6.Ra6 Bc4 7.Rxa7 Kd3 +- (1.49) Depth: 14/24 00:00:18 2399kN, tb=9496 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Kd6 3.Ra5 Bc4 4.Kd2 c5 5.Ke3 Bd3 6.a3 Kc6 7.b4 cxb4 +- (1.66) Depth: 15/24 00:00:31 3816kN, tb=17573 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Kd6 3.Ra5 Bc4 4.Kd2 c5 5.Ke3 Bd3 6.a3 Kc6 7.b4 cxb4 +- (1.72) Depth: 16/26 00:00:45 5767kN, tb=25576 1.Rc5 a6 2.Kc2 Kf5 3.Ra5 e3 4.Kd1 Ke4 5.Rxa6 Kd3 6.Ra3+ Kd4 7.Ke1 Bc4 8.Rc3 Bxa2 +- (1.90) Depth: 17/28 00:01:13 10694kN, tb=44929 1.Rc5 a6 2.b3 Ke5 3.Ra5 Kd4 4.Kc2 c5 5.Rxa6 c4 6.bxc4 Bxc4 7.Ra7 e3 8.Kd1 Be6 +- (1.69) Depth: 18/34 00:02:05 21086kN, tb=77225 1.Rc5 a6 2.b3 Ke5 3.Ra5 Kd4 4.Kc2 c5 5.Rxa6 e3 6.Ra7 c4 +- (1.85) Depth: 19/32 00:03:39 31416kN, tb=109862 Michael
