First, a few generalities: (1) There is much more to life than computer chess. (2) There is much more to life than chess. (3) There is much more to life than messing with computers and computer games. (4) Computer programming is not the only profession, and especially not chess engine programming. (5) Etceteras. I'm sure you get the drift. In general, chess offers many opportunities for companies to make money other than by developing and selling their chess engines. As for Tasc . . . anything they do will be fine with me. Whatever chess products or services they offer will probably be quite good. It's OK if they are not developing a better chess engine. Maybe it's heresy to say these things here at CCC? : ) Bob D.
