Mighty strange ideas about the openings IMO. Both Grunfeld and the KID are still viable openings nowhere close to being busted. Some topical lines always fail. But In the main they are sound combative openings. And opening fashion change when the new fresh ideas get tested OTB and proper ways of meeting them get known rendering them excercises of memorization. Thus neccessitating changing to new pastures until the next batch of innovation ensues. Some openings never go out of fashion while others surface when the conditions are right. Examples of the former would be the Slav and the Ruy while Russian and Scotch examples of the latter. MvH Dan Andersson
