Longer than you think, maybe.  About 25-30 times as long as 7ply.

I made a new executable that uses double.  The updated source files and
executable are available at my ftp site:

C16_00.ZIP has the source code.  I have not put in the 16.1 patch, so you have
to get egtb in the right place.

crafty2.exe is the modified executable.

I decided to fix it because I have a machine I call "pounder" that I run at 8
hours per position.  It gives me a random number for acn, since 2^31 gets
tromped {signed 4 byte integer}.  Those negative numbers for node counts were
bugging the heck out of me.

I hate to think of a machine buzzing away at counting bare nodes when it could
be crunching EPD positions, but to each his tastes. ;-)

Steven Edwards did get to ply=8, with a count of roughly 50 billion.
