One of my explanations is that the Fritz programmers wanted to avoid *Kasparov*
getting closed-French style pawn chains with d4/e5 , or mirrored, d5/e4 for
black. Because this offers good king-attacking possibilities for a human. I
imagine they therefore increased the bonus for such a pawn formation, but failed
to make the bonus assymetrical, which would explain why Fritz over-compensated
for the lost pawn.

Honestly I am pretty sure that Crafty would do better against Kasparov, or
Phallanx, or Chess System Tal ...
