Hi, I've followed previous discussions regarding AMD's Opteron chip, and 64-bit processors in general. I've read quite a bit, both here and on hardware review sites - but I'm still no expert on such matters. So, I'm not trying to provoke any unnecessary repeat discussions. Instead, I'd just like to poll for some brief opinions... Should I consider buying a dual Opteron 248 system? I use single processer and multi-processor based chess engines. I'm currently running a dual Athlon 1800+ (1.53 Ghz). Do people feel that the cost isn't justified by the benefits? Should I wait till the 64-bit software market matures more? If not, what's a good alternative (in terms of performance for chess)? As mentioned before, I'm not looking for indepth justifications. Just wanting to gauge people's preferences at this point in time. thanks Gordon
