I have looked into getting a system like this. The only reason to get one yet,
IMO, is if you are a programmer looking to release an Opteron version of your
chess engine. Otherwise, if you are not a programmer, you are limited to a
handful of programs that really take full advantage of the hardware (Crafty,
Sjeng, and ?). I'd wait until more commercial engines supported Opteron natively
before getting one, assuming you aren't a programmer.

I'm a programmer, and I'd like to have my engine support the Opteron, but I'm
not going to take that plunge yet because I have other things I can work on
right now to improve my program, and if I wait, maybe prices will go down some.
In any case, there will be more software support if I wait. But those are just
my reasons.

It sounds like you would definitely use and enjoy such a system though, so I'd
say get one at some point :-)
