The only difference is that one has XP Pro installed from scratch. The slowdown is really dramatic - a factor of three or so. The program I use to test just runs a simple program which only use CPU. I have also compared the time Crafty and Ruffian use to evaluate a certain position to a given ply. All show the same slowdown. Regards Andreas
