Regarding the convenience of the WCCC for myself, and probably a lot of people around the world, the event might as well be on the moon. I bet most people can't afford to travel halfway around the world, hauling computer hardware along. Just because you and other commercial authors can afford to travel anywhere doesn't mean that most people can. An online event would be much more convenient for everyone. If you want to meet with people, then organize a meeting place in Europe, and all Europeans meet there, and all play online from there. That would solve the problems of everyone realistically being able to play, and if you had several "hubs" around the world to cut down on traveling costs, you could also ensure the same level of cheating prevention as you would with everyone in one meeting place by having local tournament directors at each location around the world.
