They don't bother to do even that any more. We _used_ to when the event alternated. Check my participation from 1977 on. Same for Mark after he started on his program. I participated in two WMCCC events via an operator, before the ICCA made that a no-no. Although they made exceptions without telling anyone exceptions could be made. I gave up on them myself. I _still_ get to compete on ICC, and chat with other programmers, and we have the CCT event every so often. I'd rather have a big event with more participants, over the internet, than the silly WCCC Europe-only event that is being held this year and called the "World Computer Chess Championship". The biggest insult of all is that it is being held over one of our most important national holiday weekends in the states, "Thanksgiving". Not only do we have to have enough "interest" to abandon our jobs for a week plus, but now we have to abandon our families at a traditional family time here. Makes a _lot_ of sense. And it shows just how "world" aware the ICCA actually is. > >In Paris 1997 there were 34 participants, with more than 10 entries refused. >They included only 4 Americans, of which 2 were there in person. > >>While I don't think it's very important for a team like Chessmaster where >>exactly WCCC is being held, I can imagine it is for non-commercials.
