Regarding disclaimers, there are at least two reasons for disclaimers.
1. To warn the reader that you have a financial or other interest which might
affect your ability to write objectively on a subject.
2. To make it clear you are speaking for yourself and not for some other
person or organization which the reader might otherwise suppose you are
representing.
You were asked to use a disclaimer for reason 2. so suggesting that others
should have a disclaimer for reason 1. is just confusing things.
Nevertheless I think you had a point that most readers know you are not
speaking for Ed and so there is no strong reason to tell them particularly
absent a complaint. One could as well request Hyatt post a disclaimer that he
is not speaking for IBM when defending Deep Blue.
