Larger fields and longer events sound good to chess fans but rarely much sense to sponsors. You need a larger space for more time and you have to pay ten or twenty people instead of one or two. All that extra cost with no tangible advantage from a publicity standpoint to the general public. I'm sure there would be a few additional angles to play up, but none that would compensate for all the downside. The sad reality is that there aren't enough serious chess fans to make it worth holding an event that expensive for us. You're talking a budget of between five and eight million dollars.
