Takes 2-3 seconds to start up, generally. If you start it multiple times in a row, the first time takes maybe up to 5 seconds max. The rest are very quick... This on a 1gb xeon, using 15K U320 SCSI drives in a raid-0 (striping for faster reads) configuration. Running linux of course. I typically use 384mb of RAM for hashing, another 20M for pawn hashing, 64M for egtb cache, and the above 200M for indices. That leaves plenty out of 1gb total.
