Careful not to confuse "autoplayer" with the pc-board. Autoplayer is a cable
connection that allows one to hook up to PCs and play a chess program directly
against each other, thus allowing the programs to play unsupervised. The
controversy on the autoplayer is because a body, the SSDF, that uses this
technology in order to play programs against each other and issue them a rating
according to their results found that in order to use the autoplayer driver to
test FRITZ 5, the machine had to be equipped with no less than 64 Mb of ram else
it wouldn't run. Fritz being a memory starved child works far better the more
memory it has available. SSDF consented and began testing the program along with
it's opponents at this new setting, but many (almost all) questioned the special
treatment allowing a manufacturer to dictate new conditions that especially
favoured a particular product.
