Why hasn't a more recent FRITZ 8 free upgrade been released when the newest Fritz 8 CD has version 8.0.0.29? The most recent free upgrade (8.0.0.23) has bugs and is not as strong as the 8.0.0.8 CD Version. That brings to mind another important question! Many players are not advanced users and may not think of preserving copies of engines before upgrading. So, many have gone to the playchess server and have been prompted to upgrade, have had there 8.0.0.8 engine converted to the inferior 8.0.0.23 version and know no other way of getting it back, other than uninstalling and reinstalling the program. On top of that, many may not even be aware that there is a problem with the engine. They paid for the CD, get prompted to an inferior upgrade, and then a new customer purchases Fritz 8 and gets the latest 8.0.0.29 version. This doesn't seem at all fair. In all fairness to the upgrade, there are some GUI features in the true 3D settings that are added, such as under the "Geometry and Board" tab, the upgrade adds the option to have the Knights look left or right or diagonal left or right. I am sure there are others. I just think that if a new CD version of the same program, in this case FRITZ 8, is out, then CHESSBASE should have the decency to offer that as an upgrade as well. All comments encouraged and welcome. Eeven if you think I am being too fussy! Thanks, Brian Katz
