Thank you David.
The amount of criticism I have received recently is nothing to the amount that
Fritz and other top programs have received in the recent years, so I don't think
it matters much anyway. :)
These events are looking more and more like big lotteries to me. You pay some
expensive price for a chance to finish at some high rank. If you are lucky.
I have not spent 20 years on a chess program just to have the right to
participate in a lottery.
It would be interesting to participate for only one reason: to meet the other
chess programmers.
But the time and energy needed to participate is in my opinion better used in
working quietly on improving the engine. And the programmers can communicate by
Internet (not as good as seeing somebody in person, but much less expensive).
Finally there is this nice pretty girl I have dated, and unfortunately on the
same week as the World Championship. I had to make a choice, and actually it has
been a very easy one. :)
On the other hand the SSDF is in my opinion not a lottery and it is the place
where it matters to be on top.
