Actually, 8.0.0.8 is the version that came with my CD.
What I also find interesting is that the playchess server only seems to
recognize the GUI and not the engine version. Of course the playchess server
recognizes the "Engine Name". What I am refering to is this....
I had upgraded through the prompts from the playchess server. Of course I saved
a copy of the 8.0.0.8 engine before I began. (An important habit I have gotten
into.) Ran through the upgrade and the 8.0.0.8 engine was converted to 8.0.0.23,
and of course some GUI changes were made.
After finding that I was not happy with 8.0.0.23 I switched engines. Then when
using the playchess server, it does not recognize the fact that I was using
8.0.0.8 and never again prompted me for an upgrade. My point is this....If there
was to be a new upgrade, I would never know through a playchess server prompt.
Only if I had uninstalled and reinstalled the program or found out by some other
means such as this site. If the latter was the case, I would then have to
reinstall and go to the playchess server to again be prompted for an upgrade.
This all seems silly to me. There surely must be a better way.

Just the other day I used my other computer which still had the CD version GUI
and engine 8.0.0.8 and went through the upgrade. At one point just before
continuing a window shows that the upgrade was 1 of 15 which have been issued.
So, who knows what is what anymore?
Note that with Chessbase, going back to Fritz 7, you would find that on the
Chessbase site, the initial page showing an available upgrade, would show an OLD
version date. Yet when performing the upgrade the date in your information
window would show the NEW date. Often times because of this I only knew of a
NEW upgrade through this site.
I have been rambling on long enough. Some of you may have simple answer that
makes me look silly, but I welcome that with open arms!
As always, any and all views welcome!
Brian
