I am interested in technology. I also don't think it matters that he showed up with 8 cards, Diep is running on 500 processors! The exciting thing is of course the use of FPGA technology, and the fact that adding chess knowledge does not come at a cost of performance as with a normal program. I believe this technology has much better potential to produce the best computer chess. There have been many debates about the strength of Deep Blue vs. the current crop of programs, but regardless of one's opinion about that particular implementation, computing in hardware has obvious strengths, and it's exciting to see it come together this way. If Brutus can use the black pieces to defeat Shredder tomorrow that would be impressive.
