The FPGA work is interesting; I did some FPGA research in college and they can be quite powerful. The biggest problem with the FPGA cards is that they can't use the hash table (and other move ordering info) in the lowest few ply. I seem to remember reading the paper on Deep Blue, which stated they had only about a 12x speedup on 24 procs, and I suspect a lot of that was due to the above issues. anthony
