I don't think we will see an explosion of these kinds of chess players. I think
we may see one or two more in the coming years, but it is so much easier to just
write a program, which can be done at almost no cost, and take advantage of the
natural increase in hardware speed.

It seems like an awful lot of work and investment of time and money to create a
superior FPGA based player, and after all of that hard work, your player might
be obsolete in a few years because of the hardware improvements that software
players get to take advantage of for free.
