Please re-read my post. I just checked if I gave enough details in my last post
and I think I did, maybe you read too fast.

I use WinBoard 4.2.6.

I just checked again and there is also no problem with the book files. I did
your suggested experiment (once with "computer" and once without) and it will
play 1. e4 and 1. d4 against a computer and 1. e4, 1. d4 and 1. f4 against a
human - this tested in textmode. So I assume there is no need for a new
download.

I suspect a bug in the WinBoard mode that will let it not treat the computer
command correctly.

I also have an idea what could be the reason. I don't use WinBoard in
engine-engine mode but in Standalone mode. Crafty reads the crafty.rc input that
tells it it is playing a computer - this is before the xboard command. Now
protover 2 and all this stuff, and at last it gets my username name blablabla.
Maybe this overrides my being a computer per crafty.rc or the xboard command
itself does? Just an idea, could be sth different too - I don't think it has
something to do with the Windows version, so you should be able to reproduce it
with XBoard too.

I will wait for further instructions.

Peter
