Actually, he is correct. There is a little flaw in your argument. Chessbase has
always promoted Fritz above other programs. Above Junior, Shredder, Hiarcs, you
name it. The fact that they also sell those programs has never meant a thing.
Even now, when Shredder tops the SSDF list convincingly, Friedel declared in an
interview that the untested version of Fritz that was playing Kasparov was the
strongest program in the world. Despite absolutely no results to back this
statement up.
I think he's correct and that Chessbase is anxious to see Fritz do well in this
event so they can add it to the accolades of the program that played Kasparov.
If they don't win it, nor top the SSDF, any claims it is best will be no more
than a lot of hot air.
