Although I share your preference for books, I haven't read any. I have seen other people recommend the book "Scalable Search in Computer Chess" by Ernst A. But even so, I find chess programming to be great fun. It is also not nearly as difficult as most beginners believe. Writing something that plays legal moves and beats the majority of human amateur players is a relatively easy (though time-consuming) programming task. Tord
