There has been 30-ply searches from the starting position. Material only MTD(f) and the eval was zero. And I guess that most/all first move don't drop material. So a 30 ply search won't tell us much in the opening. And there will be considerable doubt all along the game. There would be a considerable combinatorial explosion anyhow. MvH Dan Andersson
