Subject: If you're a chess programmer you should give CHANT a try

I'm *not* a shill for Andrei nor associated with CHANT in anyway, that being
said-

shill mode: ON

I've finally installed the CHANT library code into my engine and it is an
_excellent_ utility. It's allowed me to trace 9-10 ply search trees
graphically and some of the results have been surprising. I've already
started to make a number of changes to my quiescence search which have
increased its tactical abilities (at least on the positions I've examined).

Anyway, you probably ought to give it at least a cursory look. Integration
into my engine took an afternoon and went relatively smoothly. I hope to
*never* print another ASCII tree as long as I live (my hard-drive is
breathing a sigh of relief already) ;-)

shill mode: OFF
