If things have got as far as this the only solution might be to nail the whole
process down contractually, such as a non-disclosure agreement. This would be
along the lines of "the organisers reserve the right to inspect source code of
any participating program (under stated conditions) ... but are bound not to
divulge any information or knowledge derived from that source code".

NDAs are invariably part of any commercial contract where there is some sort of
partnership.
