I agree. He doesn't seem to have too much interest in tourneys. In the beginning
of this year, I had suggested to him to go to the Paderborn tourney but he had
other priorities. I guess that now someone (ChessBase ?) had manged to find an
operator for List and so he finally agreed to participate because he didn't have
to go himself.

Exactly.
The whole thing is quite unfortunate now: not only for Fritz Reul but also for
the other participants and the organizers.
