Until the feature you desire is implemented, here is a work-around which may
help you to approach what you wish:
Use the existing "Filter Messages" feature and look first at bulletins of
specific individuals whom you know write the kind of bulletins you like. You
may still get into some thread you dislike, but if you see a name you associate
with the type of bulletin you dislike then simply skip over that person's
bulletins. Typically, threads quickly diverge away from the original topic, so
the later bulletins in the thread will likely be more like what you are looking
for [or the opposite].
For example, if you are a computer programmer and like to see thought-provoking
code snippets or pseudo-code, then look at Bob Hyatt's bulletins first. There
are others known to post that kind of bulletin too.
As another example, if you like to look at chess positions, find out who
typically posts chess diagrams. Then look at their bulletins first.
It may also help to avoid threads about topics which do not interest you.
Typically, the title of the first bulletin in a thread will give some indication
of the content, at least in the beginning of the thread.
I am sorry that I cannot be more specific. Every person here probably has
unique preferences and different likes and dislikes. Some people cannot stand
specific individuals. Unfortunately, one person's favorite may be another's
anti-favorite and visa versa. It is not going to be possible to please
everybody.
It may be a good idea to volunteer to do the coding for the new search features
you desire, since our sponsor may not have unlimited resources.
IMHO.
