What if one of the people that you normally ignore makes a sensible post, which leads to an enormous discussion between the people whose posts you normally read? An active kill-filter would remove the subsequent posts -- the whole thread, if your ignoree started it -- and you would never know what you are missing. The best sort of kill filter is the one in my head. I know from experience that I don't like the posts of certain forum members, so when I see their names I don't read what they've written. But my brain's kill filter sometimes makes exceptions, if I see their name in the middle of an otherwise interesting thread, and there are lots of replies to what they've written. There ARE annoying people in this forum. Or at least, they annoy me, maybe they don't annoy you. If what they write deviates from the forum's charter, the moderators will step in and take action. If it's just my personal problem, I can politely look the other way... and I can do that without the help of a kill filter mechanism being offered me.
