I don't have any experience with PocketPC, but for the Palm there is PocketChess Deluxe which is designed to do store and analyze games -- including variations etc. The engine isn't particularly good if you want to play, but it's billed as being more for the purposes you describe anyway. Even comes with a "3000+ library of the Grandmasters" and also has a desktop component to help you import games/manage your library. http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=85 From what I've seen there is nothing similar on the PocketPC -- most programs are designed for playing first, studying as an afterthought.
