In 1995 world computer chess championship in paderborn CSTal reached a won position against XXXX (i guess this was the name). Both programs saw the mate. XXXX stopped computing because it had the mate announcements. There was a promotion. Into queen would have been the mate line. We said: what a nice place to mate the king. Let's play this to the mate-position. But due to a bug (in the interface, engine or whatever) the program promoted into a knight. CSTal lost this won game, when both programs had the mate-line. If the opponent OPERATOR would have resigned when he saw the mate-lines on both screens, it woulkd have been won for CSTal. But due to the BUG it was won for XXXX.
