Make the in person portion of the event shorter! I would like to participate, get to travel, and see other countries. But a week long trip isn't going to happen for a college student like myself. US participation aside, I think you would get significantly more participants if the event was over a single weekend (or at least the in person portion). Look at the world wide interest in the CCT. Already 25 participants with plenty of time left to enter. Of course you would have most of the commercial entries in addition to that at the WCCC. When the expenses go down, more people will participate. This is clear from the participation in the CCTs. For myself, the duration itself isn't a big deal in the summer. It's the fact that more time means more money spent. The opposite is true for people who have full time jobs. They have the money, but not the time. You could solve both problems by making the in person portion of the event shorter. It seems like a logical step that has to happen sooner or later, or you are going to have no one but the commercial participants who have both time and money to invest in such an event.
