I got totally confused because I was doing 3 things at once - you are correct.

Yes, what is done is done -- now is the time to make improvements for the
future.  The lack of written clarity regarding both of these issues put the TD
in a tough spot - so I think more clarity will help a future TD no matter who
that is.  In both of these cases, I do not think the rules are well laid out.  I
think there should be more clarity to help the TD make the right decision.
There should be no disqualification once the tournament starts - only afterwards
or before.  That would be change in the rules, that IMO, is needed.  Then all
games games either count or all games are thrown out.  There should be no rush
to judgement because a clock is ticking - there is always time afterwards to
settle the issues and get it right.
