Ferret is a dormant volcano, waiting to detonate. Wondering about Insomniac
too.

But there are others. Here is the list of released Winboard programs from the
USA:

Alex, Amateur, Arasan, Bace, Beaches, Betsy, BigBook, Chad's
Chess, ChessRikus, Crafty, DChess,
DeepTrouble, Dorky, DrunkenMaster, EXchess, Fimbulwinter, Gerbil,
GnuChess 4.0.x, GnuChess 5.x, Horizon,
iChess, Jester, Kace, NoonianChess, Parrot, Plywood, Pooky,
Pulsar, ROBOKewlper, Simontacchi, SlowChess,
SSEChess, Storm, Tristram, TSCP, Usurper and Zotron.

Some of them are pretty strong.

In particular, Amateur, Arasan, Crafty, ExChess, Horizon, and SlowChess can put
a scare into a good program (maybe some of the others, but I don't play them
enough to know).

SlowChess has a very rapid rise. There are also other programs being developed
that are not publicly available.
