Sometimes it finds a mate quicker with a parallel search than without. It is luck. Or in the above case, note that the average depth for 1 second was 4.5 plies, while for 5 it went up, then for 10 back down. Crafty stops when it finds mates, which keeps that number pretty low for WAC which is pretty easy as a test set.
