That was his explanation.  Null-move is not without risk.  Just look at all
the null-move killer positions posted here and around the world.  non-null-move
programs don't have that problem.  Of course, null-move has its advantages as
well, so you have to believe that the pros outweigh the cons.  And the longer
the time control, the more true this seems to be.  Play a null-mover at only
5 plies and it will make ugly errors.
