Manuel,

It is difficult to tell what your problem is exactly, but I think that you need
to try a reinstall.

You may have some problems on your disk too, so I would suggest:

1. Run a disk checking program, correct any errors you may find.
2. Uninstall Chessmaster.
3. Make sure that no other programs are running. This includes anti-virus
software.
4. Attempt to reintall chessmaster.

Step 3) is important because windows programs share fragments of code. If one of
the code fragments is in use, then the install program will not be able to write
an updated version to the disk if it needs to.

And no, I have never experienced the problem that you detailed above.
