The point was, this was how I became very proficient in programming the
Cray machines in assembly, except then I was learning from Harry Nelson,
probably the best Cray assembly person on the planet.  That "learning"
is continuing today on all the various flavors of X86 including Opteron.  :)

So, as always, thanks for the timely and informative answers...

I sent russell some opteron results for several different firstone()
type functions he wanted to test.

He will probably post something about them soon.  I'll let that be his
thread since he wrote the drivers and put it all together.  I added my
inline FirstOne() just for fun...
