It's all the >same to me". No. I think a sponsor is someone who has x dollars to spare and a *real* interest in where it goes. If they can't see where it's going or some real reason that the money is needed, then they don't pay. I don't blame them. In the case of the WCCC, there's no real reason why the ICGA requires $50k (when they do none of the work and don't provide much for the competitors), so companies don't pay. >Did you notice that early this year FIDE put up $1 million for the Kasparov - >Deep Junior match ? They shouldn't, because with the way the event is (mis)handled by the ICGA, there's not much reason for a company to sponsor it. It would be like throwing money into a wishing well, with no hope of ever getting a wish granted.
