There was an attempt to get Karpov's endorsement which he declined to provide. There was a contemporary report that the JSA model occasionally made an illegal move. I did not have one of the units, so I can't offer my opinion on this. My first LCD board dedicated unit was a Chess Champion Mark V; circa 1981, it plugged into a wall outlet.
