Yes, there are countless free and entertainingly weak engines out there. One of them is my own, which supports the UCI protocol and should be easy to install and use in the Hiarcs GUI: http://www.math.uio.no/~romstad/gothmog/gothmog.html For other UCI engines, try the following link: http://www.uciengines.de The vast majority of free chess engines use the Winboard protocol, which makes them somewhat more tricky to install in the Fritz/Hiarcs/Shredder GUI. There is a Winboard-to-UCI adapter you can use, but I don't know where to find it or how to use it. If it's OK to you to install another GUI, you can download Arena (from http://www.playwitharena.com) or Winboard (from http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html). Arena is quite nice and supports the Winboard as well as the UCI protocol. The best resource for information about Winboard engines (there are more than 200 to choose from) is Leo Dijkjman's pages: http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl Have fun! Tord
