Yes, there are countless free and entertainingly weak engines out there.  One
of them is my own, which supports the UCI protocol and should be easy to install
and use in the Hiarcs GUI:

For other UCI engines, try the following link:

The vast majority of free chess engines use the Winboard protocol, which
makes them somewhat more tricky to install in the Fritz/Hiarcs/Shredder
GUI.  There is a Winboard-to-UCI adapter you can use, but I don't know
where to find it or how to use it.  If it's OK to you to install another
GUI, you can download Arena (from http://www.playwitharena.com) or
Winboard (from http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html).  Arena is quite
nice and supports the Winboard as well as the UCI protocol.

The best resource for information about Winboard engines (there are more
than 200 to choose from) is Leo Dijkjman's pages:
