We are far from having 7-men tablebases, but I think we will have 6-men
tablebases in a foreseeable future.
The reasons to have pawnless tablebases:
1. Endings with pawns can evolve to endings without pawns due to promotions. You
need to have all the promotion classes first, to calculate the tablebases with
pawns.
2. Even if they do not appear in actual play, they are needed because they can
occur in the search.
