I am not sure, but my guess would be that there is no difference between
engines. There are a number of Fritz 8 engine versions. Four that I am aware of.
8.0.0.5, 8.0.0.8, 8.0.0.23 and 8.0.0.26.
8.0.0.05 from earliest cd version, then 8.0.0.8 cd version, then 8.0.0.23
from the Chessbase Playchess server online upgrade. I believe that 8.0.0.26 is
from the latest cd version.
I am sure there are many more knowledgable out there than I who could expand on
this much more than I can.
I know in the past, in reference to Fritz7, when the Deep-Fritz7 version came
out,(designed for dual a processor, 2 or more) (Single processor versions don't
get any added benefit from dual processors I am told.)it was advertised as
having more positional, and more endgame knowledge than Fritz7 even if only used
with a single processor.
The X3D version used vs Kasparov was Deep Fritz8. The recent advertisement in
Chessbase.com does not make any reference to Deep-Fritz 8 having any more
knowledge than that of Fritz 8. The only difference being that it can be used
with a Dual processor and calculate 85% faster than the single processor
version.

The engines should be the same as any other Fritz 8 engines out there. Which
version I do not know. This can always be checked by right clicking onto the
engine file in the engine folder, selecting properties, and then selecting the
Version tab. The Version number should be right there. Also showing in the
properties window will be modification dates to compare.
