As the depth got deeper, ie. 6 ply or above the gain was much less. If you are new to chess, then setting the ply depth to 2 or 3 definately help as the program can make as good a move as it does at deeper searches. You must remember also that many of today programs think on your time, that is while you are thing about the move that you are going to make the program is trying to figure out which move you might make and what its response should be. Knowing that being able to turn off the programs thinking on your time should help a beginner too. Bill
