I wish it were true, but unfortunately I repeated the upgrade sufficiently to be reasonably sure it worked. This particular bug first appeared with the April 2003 CB8 update, at which time I tried all different ways of doing the upgrade. At that time I reported it to Chessbase complete with detailed examples of files before and after the corruption occurred. I found a set of files where the error was repeatable and sent them to Chessbase. I never heard anything further from them, and now I see the bug has persisted into the Dec 2 update. If it's something unique about my environment (which seems strange, since I've tried various approaches to eliminate that possibility) then it's obviously not so important overall. I am sufficiently careful to keep multiple copies of files and thus avoided any major losses. Not everyone is so careful and this could be devastating to someone (such as myself) who keeps extensive analysis files and doesn't do regular backups. I've simply rolled back to the previous update level (Mar 2002) which does not exhibit this bug. This is somewhat unfortunate, since the April 2003 update fixed a number of small but annoying problems when merging games, but at least my files don't get corrupted. Paul
